Madlib [DJ Set], Kamaal Williams [Live], The Heliocentrics [Live], Carista [DJ Set]
The legendary producer leads an extremely rare and simply unmissable sonic invasion of grooves, moves and rhythm at Bristol’s Marble Factory this August bank holiday weekend.
MADLIB (DJ set)
When talking about impact, legacy and artistry there are few individuals who belong in the upper echelons of producers and Djs so much as Madlib.
One of the most celebrated, prolific, and eclectic artists in hip-hop and jazz, the enigmatic producer has cooked up beats for the likes of J Dilla, MF Doom, Kanye West, Anderson Paak., Mos Def, De La Soul, Ghostface, Talib, Erykah Badu, Snoop etc and overseen some truly seminal masterpieces (Madvillainy anyone?)
Whilst also nice on the mic too (his now retired alter-ego Quasimoto) it’s behind the turntables where you can really see the master at work; quoted as saying "DJ first, producer second, and MC last”, come and see the legend pursue his first true love: DJing.
As fans will know, seeing Madlib perform is an extremely RARE occurrence so miss this at your peril.
KAMAAL WILLIAMS (Live)
A driving force behind the UK jazz explosion. Led by the dynamic Henry Wu, founder of tastemaking collective/label 22a and work as one half of Yussef Kamaal whose seminal album Black Focus put him rightly in his place as one of THE standard bearer of the new wave of UK jazz.
“In short, it's fantastic: a wonderfully layered, musically engrossing, emotionally hard-hitting performance that sends shivers down the spine.” Clash Music Live Review
THE HELIOCENTRICS (Live)
2010 Winners of the Gilles Peterson Worldwide Award The Heliocentrics were carving their own niche in jazz way before the recently explosion, warping the parameters of jazz, psych, Afrobeat, funk and many other genres to create a sound completely of their own.
One of these most hyped selectors on the world stage. She's a favourite of everyone from Seth Troxler to Secretsundaze, two Boiler Room’s under her belt, a slot on NTS and Amsterdam’s Red Light Radio and Dekmantel sets that have gone down in history.
Carista's DJ-sets are in between electronic beats and grooves. Her diverse selection in music goes from broken beat, bruk-riddims, house, bass heavy sounds to disco, boogie and beyond.
Venue Address: Marble Factory, 74-78 Avon Street, Bristol, BS2 0PX
